Spring Summer 2013.

This is my final major project/final collection. After alot of hard work I am pleased with the results, which look especially good in these photographs.

Photographer: Ashleigh Bell. Model: Laura Brockbank. MUA: Alexzandra Cleal.
Without these ladies these wouldn't look half as good.

Floral, silk, chiffon & tears.

I finally finished my final major project a week ago. I won't bore you all with an in-depth evaluation of it all (well not right now) but here are some pages from my finished sketchbook.

Lace, in a classy way.

As I was browsing the Ted Baker website I came across this little beauty. It would set you back £399 but isn't it cute? I love the full skirt, which gives it a real 50s feel. The lace detailing is subtle and it's nice to see it being used in a slightly more considered way, as opposed to a full lace dress, which are ten a penny.

It's also available in the colours below (and black, not shown).

Sneaky Peak

A little sneaky peak at the printed silk scarves I have ordered. Not sure how they'll turn out but if they don't work with my collection I'll just keep them for myself. I love scarves.

Jenny...

Yesterday at work was our Jenny Packham 'designer day'. The dresses are to die for, every single one of them was beautiful, I couldn't resist taking a few pictures!

The window display was stunning & changed throughout the day depending which dresses were being tried on. This particular one was my work of art.

So many dresses, beading and sparklies.

One of the more simple designs.

So stunning.

A close up of the beadwork. It was incredible.

A gold number. Less bridal, more evening wear in my opinion.

It had amazing detail though.

This was the back. The front was plain. Lovely.

A shoulder detail.

This is nice.

Better than the BAFTAs...even with blue hair.

Katy Perry at the 2012 Grammy Awards in Elie Saab.

The BAFTAS...

I've got to say I'm actually quite disappointed with the outfits seen at the BAFTAs last night. I actually don't feel any were worthy of note. They were all a bit plain/unimaginative in my honest opinion. Perhaps a reflection of austere times. But still, I'm a bit gutted actually. Ah well.

Hear hear.

I saw this posted this morning by a friend and it is something I honestly believe in.

After writing 8,542 words about the future of haute couture (not for fun but my dissertation) it helped to enforce my beliefs about designers helping to change the world as much as the consumer. Ultimately if the products are there people will buy them. Particularly if they are 'nice'.

I do feel a little hypocritical at this moment in time as I did spend £70 in Primark yesterday (something I didn't think was possible!!) but as a student I would rather buy several things than just one as I can't afford to go shopping often and never know when the next time will be. However I am (relatively) pleased to say that the three dresses I bought aren't the most flattering so the likelihood is I'll return them and only keep the cardigan, leggings and hair bands I bought.

There is nothing wrong with the high street but I do not intend to design for that level and I guess part of that reason is because the nature of disposable fashion is exactly that, it's throwaway. And I don't want to make throw-away clothes. I want them to be loved and treasured and find themselves in a shop like Hepwrights Vintage in the future.

Spring/Summer 2012, the couture way.

So far I'm in love with Chanel, Dior & Valli (not hard really is it!!)

I wish I had the time/workforce to create something half as stunning for my Final Major Project.

Here's a selection of my favourites. This is by no means all of them.

Volume & Texture to die for.

So pretty, gorgeous colours.

DETAIL.

Just wow.

This has similarities to something I've designed for my collection. In terms of
colour, silhouette and fabric choice.

Literally.just.amazing.

Dior at its best?

This year is Valli's first year showing as an established house. And he
did not disappoint.

LOVE the print.

Same silhouette/colour palette as I have chosen....hmmmm.....it works!
